Jim has spent more than two decades, in both civil and criminal law, representing
his clients before the court. His practice is extensive and diverse and has included
real estate, family law, injured victims, contracts, wills, trusts and probate matters
as well as numerous business transactions. His criminal practice has included both
prosecution and defense work.

In 1987 Jim started his career as an Intern Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Pierce
County assigned to the Criminal Misdemeanor Unit. One year later, Jim went to
work in the Juvenile Division as a Deputy Prosecutor in King County. In 1989 he
became Assistant City Prosecutor for the City of Lynnwood. Three years later, he
became an associate with a private law firm.

In 1990 Jim became Legislative director for Community Transit. Jim spent a
considerable amount of time representing Community Transit’s interests at the
State Capitol in Olympia. This involvement led to Jim’s decision to seek a seat in
the Washington State House of Representatives. Jim was elected in 1992 and was
elected vice chair of the House Judiciary Committee in 1993.
While serving in Olympia, Jim also worked for a law firm in Snohomish County.
He opened his own firm in 1995.
